Season of the Witch (my favorite szn)
Witchy wines, wines for changing weather, and all kinds of spooky energy.
Welcome back! I told you this new newsletter style would hold me accountable ;) I have a couple of very exciting things happening in Masvinoland next month, so I’ve been taking this month a little slower, enjoying wines I haven’t had a chance to open and working at my actual job (yes! I also have a full job that’s not in wine).
I’m actually going on a mini vacation next week to New Orleans so I can have the spookiest Halloween of my dreams, so I’ll take next week off from writing, but promise to be back with a very special Southern Gothic Wine Newsletter. Trust me, it’s a thing. In the meantime, I’ve linked a couple of spooky wines below that I think would be great for all of the ghoulish plans you summon this weekend. Tis the season for your witchiest energy. Anyway I don’t have much else to share except that I have a VERY incredible announcement coming in the next few weeks so this newsletter is short and sweet. See ya!
Wines I’ve been drinking:
Last weekend, I snagged a very exclusive bottle of Raft Wines Sangiovese ‘21, as part of the X-Drop by Vinohead! There are only a few bottles of this wine available but if you get a chance: BUY IT. It’s silky like a sophisticated botanical cherry cola. It was made for one of those crisp, sexy, cozy fall evenings.
The perfect pairing:
Final Girl Dolcetto — the perfect pairing for a witchy girls night of casting spells and watching The Craft. Rustic, earthy and just the tiniest bit of blackberry juice. (and it’s Latina owned and produced!). Speaking of witchy wines, I also am dying to try Lilith Wines, a winemaker after my own heart. A great option for Halloween wine.

What I ate + what I drank:
Suppa Club fondue and Waves red wine (no photo of the food because I was too invested in eating and conversation to snap a single photo!)
The way I refreshed the page 10x leading up to the release of the Suppa Club so that I could finally snag a ticket! It was such an incredible evening of food, wine, community and conversation! Thank you Asia for bringing together so many amazing people around the table.
Wine shop you should know:
Bouvons in Long Beach. This is a 10/10 wine shop and tasting experience. Their selection is incredible, diverse, and large. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable, welcoming, and invested in the stories of their wine. I popped in earlier this month for the first time and there’s so much connection between Bouvons and the wine and the way they share the bottle’s stories. You really don’t see that often LA.
There were also on the Linecheck podcast recently!
Wine term you should know:
“Oenophile" - a person who loves wine, aka anyone reading this newsletter <3 also could also be a vinophile, or Vinohead :)
Haven't seen any of these wines you mention, but in keeping with your spooky theme I'm going with Freakshow by Michael David winery in Lodi. They make a cab, a zin, a red blend, and a petite Syrah, all delicious!
