Andrea, your views are of course valid. It's a matter of opinion. Allow me to throw out my opinion. For me, having a "critical" opinion on wine, based on extensive study, tasting and experience is a necessary component of having an opinion that can actually matter to others. Putting countless hours into wine has its own payback in terms of enjoyment of wine for me and countless hours. Uninformed opinions have a place, but not for me or my friends. I don't believe dumbing down the wine experience helps the wine community. The same way sharing dining comments with a habitual McDonalds aficionado adds little or nothing to the conversation on good food. I prefer to drink wine from those vignerons who are fully invested in making fine wine, whether if at less than $15/ bottle or over $30 a bottle. Thanks for allowing me to share my personal viewpoint.

I agree with your points by the way, I just think there is nuance with any conversation and today, wine is enjoyed, learned about and made using a different set of ideals than perhaps 20-30 years ago.

Do you think my newsletter is dumbing down wine for you?

I would say you have an audience where less complexity in the conversation is often necessary. I'm not comparing you to McDonalds. 😱
